India is celebrating its 80th Independence Day today, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressing the nation from the historic Red Fort. This marks his 13th consecutive Independence Day address from the Red Fort since he became Prime Minister in 2014.
PM Modi began the day by paying tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Raj Ghat before heading to the Red Fort. After his arrival, he received the Guard of Honour and unfurled the national flag, followed by the national anthem and his address to the nation.
This year’s celebrations have a strong focus on ‘Yuva Shakti for Viksit Bharat@2047’, putting India’s youth at the centre of the country’s long-term development vision. The celebrations are also significant as India marks 150 years of ‘Vande Mataram’.
