AAP Drops Raghav Chadha as Rajya Sabha Deputy Leader, Ashok Mittal to Take Charge

New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has removed Raghav Chadha from the post of deputy leader in the Rajya Sabha, in a move that indicates a significant shift in its parliamentary strategy.

The party has written to the Rajya Sabha Secretariat requesting Chadha’s removal and has also asked that he not be allotted speaking time from AAP’s quota in the Upper House.

AAP has nominated Ashok Mittal as the new deputy leader and urged that his appointment be formalised at the earliest.

Chadha, a Rajya Sabha MP from Punjab, has been associated with the party since its early days, working closely with Arvind Kejriwal during the Delhi Lokpal movement in 2012. Over the years, he emerged as one of AAP’s prominent young leaders.

He has consistently raised key public issues in Parliament, including women’s empowerment in Panchayati Raj institutions, menstrual hygiene, and the concerns of gig workers.

The development comes as AAP looks to recalibrate its leadership structure in the Rajya Sabha, where it currently has 10 members from Punjab and Delhi.
