New Delhi: The Vice-President of India praised the transformative and healing power of music while addressing a gathering at Chetana Ganashram, an eco-friendly music campus dedicated to meditation and therapy.
Describing music as a form of medicine, he said that when a beautiful raga flows at dawn or a devotional hymn fills a sacred space, it brings peace and strengthens concentration. He emphasized that India’s ancient musical traditions have deep spiritual and therapeutic value, especially in today’s fast-paced and stressful world.
The Vice-President appreciated the unique vision of Chetana Ganashram, which promotes music meditation and therapy in an inclusive environment. He noted that the seven musical notes — Sa, Re, Ga, Ma, Pa, Dha, Ni — symbolize unity in diversity, as each note is distinct yet harmonious when combined. He commended the institution’s management for bringing together people from different faiths, including renowned singer Shri K. J. Yesudas, under the spiritual umbrella of music.
Highlighting the five proposed alayams — Dhyana-alayam (Music Meditation), Sangeet-alayam (Neurologic Music Therapy), Sabd-alayam (Voice Therapy), Kala-alayam (Indian Music and Dance), and Yoga-alayam (Yoga Therapy) — he expressed confidence that the institution would help heal many individuals.
The Vice-President also noted that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Yoga has gained global recognition and strengthened India’s cultural influence worldwide.
The ceremony was attended by Kerala Governor Shri Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, Union Minister Shri Suresh Gopi, Dr. R. Bindu, Dr. Niji Justin, Mar Andrews Thazath, Dr. Jose Nandhikkara, and Dr. Paul Poovathingal, along with other dignitaries.
