Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami Reviews Railway Infrastructure Projects with Railway Board Chairman

Dehradun, June 19: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Friday held a meeting with Railway Board Chairman Satish Kumar and his delegation at the Chief Minister’s residence to discuss the expansion of railway infrastructure, ongoing rail projects, and the state's future transportation requirements.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister emphasized that strengthening railway connectivity in Uttarakhand is essential for accelerating the state's overall development, promoting tourism and pilgrimage, attracting investment, and boosting the local economy.

Dhami highlighted the Rishikesh-Karnaprayag Rail Project as one of Uttarakhand’s most ambitious and strategically significant infrastructure initiatives. He stressed the need to complete the project within the stipulated timeline, stating that it would provide safer, faster, and more modern transportation facilities for pilgrims and tourists travelling to the Char Dham shrines, particularly Badrinath and Kedarnath.

The meeting also featured detailed discussions on the proposed Tanakpur-Bageshwar Rail Project. Railway Board Chairman Satish Kumar informed the Chief Minister that the survey and Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the project have already been completed. Dhami expressed hope that substantial progress on the project would be visible by November 2026.

The Chief Minister also urged the Railway Board to advance work on the Karnaprayag-Bageshwar and Kichha-Khatima rail line projects, describing them as crucial for meeting future transportation demands and ensuring balanced regional development across the state.

Highlighting the growing influx of tourists and pilgrims, Dhami stressed the need to modernize railway stations and enhance passenger amenities. He noted that Dehradun, Haridwar, Rishikesh, and Roorkee in the Garhwal region, along with Haldwani, Kathgodam, Ramnagar, and Tanakpur in the Kumaon region, serve as major gateways to Uttarakhand and should be equipped with world-class facilities.

The Chief Minister also called for the development of additional passenger facilities at Haridwar, Rishikesh, and Roorkee railway stations in view of the upcoming Kumbh and Kanwar fairs, which witness a significant increase in passenger traffic. He said coordinated efforts between the state government and Indian Railways would help ensure safer, smoother, and more comfortable travel experiences for devotees and visitors.

Dhami further emphasized the importance of advancing the doubling of the Haridwar-Dehradun railway line to improve rail capacity and operational efficiency.

He stated that the expansion and modernization of the railway network would create new opportunities for investment, trade, tourism, and employment, while providing long-term economic benefits to Uttarakhand.

Railway Board Chairman Satish Kumar assured the Chief Minister that all issues discussed during the meeting would be addressed with seriousness and priority.

Secretary Brijesh Kumar Sant and Additional Secretary Reena Joshi were also present during the meeting.
