Railways Suspends TTE After Viral Video Shows Alleged Ticket Deal In Vande Bharat Express

Indian Railways has suspended a Travelling Ticket Examiner (TTE) after a viral video allegedly showed him offering a passenger a ticket on the Vande Bharat Express at a discounted rate without issuing an official receipt.

The controversy erupted after a video shared on social media platform X showed a passenger telling the TTE that he wanted to travel to Varanasi and was running late despite holding a superfast train ticket.

In the clip, the TTE is allegedly heard asking the passenger to pay ₹380 for travel. However, when the passenger asks for a receipt, the TTE reportedly says the fare would then become ₹750 — nearly double the unofficial amount.

The video further shows the TTE directing the passenger to speak with an attendant. However, the attendant allegedly refused to engage in any such arrangement and asked the passenger to speak directly with the TTE.

After the video went viral, railway authorities, including Railway Seva and the Danapur DRM office, took cognisance of the matter and confirmed the suspension of the TTE involved.

Officials clarified that while TTEs are authorised to issue tickets and collect penalties from passengers travelling without valid tickets, demanding money without issuing a receipt is a violation of railway rules.

The incident triggered widespread debate on social media. While many users condemned the alleged misconduct and called it an example of corruption within public services, others argued that such unofficial ticket dealings are becoming increasingly common even on premium trains like Vande Bharat.

Several users also questioned the transparency of onboard ticketing systems and demanded stricter monitoring mechanisms to prevent misuse and unauthorised cash transactions.

Railway authorities have assured that strict action will continue against any staff found violating passenger service and ticketing norms.
