President Murmu Approves Appointment of Five New Supreme Court Judges

In a significant development for India’s judiciary, President Droupadi Murmu has approved the appointment of five new judges to the Supreme Court of India. The appointments come following recommendations made by the Supreme Court Collegium during its meetings held on May 22 and May 27, 2026.

The newly appointed judges include Justice Sheel Nagu, Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court; Justice Shri Chandrashekhar, Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court; Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva, Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court; and Justice Arun Palli, Chief Justice of the Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court.

In addition, senior advocate V. Mohana has also been elevated to the Supreme Court, marking a notable inclusion from the legal fraternity.

The appointments are expected to strengthen the functioning of the apex court by filling key judicial positions and enhancing its capacity to handle important constitutional and legal matters.
