Navi Mumbai Civic Official Arrested by ACB While Accepting Bribe

In a significant anti-corruption crackdown, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested a senior official of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation for allegedly accepting a bribe. The accused, Deputy Commissioner Kailas Gaikwad, was caught red-handed while taking ₹42,000, triggering shockwaves within the civic administration.

According to officials, the case originated from a complaint filed by contractor Dashrath Survate. He had applied for the clearance of a bill related to work carried out under the encroachment department. It is alleged that Kailas Gaikwad demanded a bribe of ₹42,000 in exchange for approving the payment.

Following the complaint, the Anti-Corruption Bureau conducted a preliminary verification, which confirmed the allegations. Subsequently, ACB officials laid a carefully planned trap to catch the accused in the act. During the operation, Gaikwad was apprehended while accepting the bribe amount, leaving little room for denial.

The action has created a stir within the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, raising concerns about corruption within the administrative system. Authorities have stated that further investigation is underway to determine whether more officials are involved in similar practices.
