Exercise Jal Raksha III focuses on strengthening disaster preparedness, rescue coordination and emergency response capabilities before the flood season in Assam
Jorhat, May 13, 2026: In a major initiative to strengthen disaster preparedness ahead of the monsoon season, the Indian Army’s Red Shield Gunners under the Spear Corps, in coordination with the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Jorhat, conducted a joint flood relief training exercise titled Exercise Jal Raksha III on Tuesday.
The exercise was organised to enhance coordination and improve the collective response capability of participating agencies during flood-related emergencies, which remain a recurring challenge in Assam and other northeastern regions.
During the training programme, personnel from the Indian Army and SDRF carried out various rescue and relief drills, including flood rescue procedures, casualty evacuation techniques and resource deployment strategies during disaster situations. The exercise focused on strengthening communication, operational readiness and rapid response mechanisms among the agencies involved. Officials stated that the joint training also highlighted the importance of timely planning and seamless coordination between military and civil disaster management authorities during humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations.
The exercise reflected a “whole-of-government” approach towards disaster management and showcased the continued commitment of the Indian Army in supporting civil authorities during emergencies. Such collaborative initiatives are considered crucial in building preparedness, improving interoperability and boosting mutual confidence among response agencies ahead of the flood season.
The event also reaffirmed the ethos of “Nation First” while underlining the Indian Army’s proactive role in safeguarding lives and assisting local administrations during natural disasters.
