Jaishankar Calls on Canadian PM Mark Carney, Praises Commitment to Forward-Looking Partnership
High-Level Talks with PM Modi to Review Progress in Strategic and Economic Cooperation
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Monday called on Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney in New Delhi, appreciating his commitment to charting a forward-looking partnership between India and Canada.
In a post on X, Jaishankar said he was “delighted” to meet Prime Minister Carney during his official visit to India. “Appreciate his commitment towards charting a forward-looking partnership,” he wrote.
Carney, who is on an official visit to India from February 27 to March 2 at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, arrived in the national capital on Sunday evening after concluding engagements in Mumbai. He was received at the airport by Union Minister of State Jitin Prasada.
Ahead of the Prime Ministerial talks, Jaishankar also met Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand, who expressed her gratitude for the warm welcome and reaffirmed her commitment to strengthening bilateral ties.
Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Carney are scheduled to hold delegation-level talks at Hyderabad House to review progress under the India-Canada Strategic Partnership. Discussions are expected to cover trade and investment, energy, critical minerals, agriculture, education, research and innovation, and people-to-people ties.
The two leaders will also attend the India-Canada CEOs Forum, marking an important step in the ongoing normalisation and expansion of bilateral relations.
