Ines Faria Says She Was Harassed in Mumbai After Refusing Selfies

New Delhi: In a disturbing incident reported from Mumbai, travel content creator Ines Faria alleged that she was followed for nearly 15 minutes by a group of young men who repeatedly insisted on taking selfies with her, despite her clear refusal.

Faria, who has travelled to over 40 countries, said she sensed discomfort when the men first approached her for photographs. Trusting her instinct, she declined their request. However, according to her statement, the group continued to follow her, repeatedly saying, “Ma’am, it will take just two seconds,” and pressuring her to agree.

She stated that the situation escalated to the point where she had to physically push one of them away to create distance and ensure her safety. Calling the experience harassment, Faria said that although she has been in India for two months, this was the first time she faced such an incident.

The episode has sparked conversations online about tourist safety, public behaviour, and the importance of respecting personal boundaries. Social media users have condemned the harassment and urged stricter enforcement of laws protecting women — both Indian citizens and foreign visitors — from unwanted advances. Authorities have not yet released an official statement regarding the matter. Meanwhile, activists emphasize that consent and personal space must be respected at all times, and that even seemingly harmless acts like requesting selfies can turn into harassment when refusal is ignored.

The incident once again highlights the urgent need for public awareness and responsible conduct in crowded urban spaces like Mumbai.
