Vice Admiral Bhalla noted that the MILAN Village complements operational cooperation by strengthening cultural connections
The Indian Navy inaugurated the MILAN Village on 15 February 2026 at the Eastern Naval Command, Visakhapatnam, as part of its flagship multilateral naval exercise, MILAN 2026. The ceremony was presided over by Vice Admiral Sanjay Bhalla, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command, who formally opened the village and toured the facilities designed to foster global maritime engagement. Conceptualised as an experience zone, the MILAN Village brings together delegates and naval personnel from over 70 countries in an atmosphere of camaraderie and friendship. The initiative aims to encourage social and cultural exchanges alongside professional naval interactions, reinforcing bonds among participating navies. A major highlight of the village is its focus on cultural immersion. Delegates will witness live performances by vocal artists, traditional folk dances, and cultural ensembles showcasing India’s rich and diverse heritage. The venue also features stalls offering naval souvenirs, handicrafts, and handloom products, reflecting craftsmanship from across the country. Visitors can further experience a variety of Indian cuisine representing regional flavours. Vice Admiral Bhalla noted that the MILAN Village complements operational cooperation by strengthening cultural connections. He emphasized that Visakhapatnam’s hosting of the International Fleet Review (IFR) 2026, MILAN 2026, and the IONS Conclave of Chiefs signifies a landmark moment in India’s maritime outreach. Exercise MILAN 2026, scheduled from 15 to 25 February, will include harbour and sea phases focusing on complex maritime operations, interoperability, and cooperative security missions.
