Indian Army Clears IEDs Along Indo–Myanmar Border in Manipur
Red Shield Division’s month-long de-mining drive secures fencing corridor near Yangoubung
Imphal, 18 February 2026: The Red Shield Division of the Indian Army’s Spear Corps successfully conducted a major area sanitisation and de-mining operation along the Indo–Myanmar Border in Manipur, significantly enhancing safety and enabling stalled infrastructure work to resume.
The operation was carried out at Yangoubung between Border Pillars 72 and 73 from 16 January to 17 February 2026. It was launched following a requisition from government agencies amid intelligence inputs indicating the possible presence of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and unexploded ordnance linked to erstwhile insurgent camps. The objective was to ensure a secure environment for the continuation of border fencing activities.
Despite dense jungle terrain and challenging security conditions, Army teams cleared and sanitised a 2.6-kilometre-long corridor with a width of 13 metres. During the operation, nine IEDs and two unexploded ordnance were detected and safely destroyed, eliminating serious risks to both civilians and personnel operating in the area. Officials stated that the successful mission has removed critical threats and facilitated the movement of Survey of India teams and construction agencies engaged in developing key border infrastructure.
The operation highlights the Indian Army’s continued efforts to support civil authorities and maintain security in sensitive border regions.
