India, Finland Deepen Strategic Ties as Modi Meets Orpo at AI Impact Summit
Leaders target higher trade, tech partnerships, and cooperation in quantum, 6G, renewables, and defence
Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Finland’s Prime Minister Petteri Orpo in New Delhi on the sidelines of the AI Impact Summit, underscoring the steady expansion of India–Finland relations. The leaders welcomed the conclusion of the India–EU Free Trade Agreement at the recent India–EU Summit, calling it a pivotal development for boosting economic growth and shared prosperity.
Both sides emphasized the importance of digitalization and sustainability as key drivers of future development. They noted the increasing presence of Indian and Finnish technology companies through investments and collaborative ventures. Prime Minister Orpo commended India’s commitment to advancing artificial intelligence that is inclusive, ethical, and equitable.
Setting an ambitious tone, the leaders called for doubling bilateral trade and accelerating cooperation in critical and emerging technologies. Priority areas identified included joint efforts in quantum technologies and 6G, alongside partnerships in renewable energy, circular economy solutions, and defence manufacturing.
The discussions also covered regional and global issues, with both leaders highlighting the value of closer coordination in global governance frameworks.
Reaffirming the momentum of high-level exchanges, Modi and Orpo expressed their intent to meet again at the forthcoming India–Nordic Summit later this year, signaling continued engagement and collaboration between the two nations.
