The tehsil administration in Modinagar demolished illegal constructions built on government land near a religious site in Begumabad village
New Delhi: The tehsil administration in Modinagar demolished illegal constructions built on government land near a religious site in Begumabad village, following rising tensions and sustained protests by local activists and Hindu organizations.
The action came after allegations that encroachments had been carried out on public land adjacent to a धार्मिक स्थल, triggering protests led by social activist Shashank Kashyap and Hindu Jagran Manch’s district coordinator Pankaj Kansal. A large number of supporters had joined the agitation, demanding immediate demolition of the unauthorized structures.
According to protesters, the land in question belonged to the government and was illegally occupied. Pankaj Kansal had even issued a warning of self-immolation if authorities failed to act, while Shashank Kashyap claimed he had received death threats during the course of the agitation. The situation in the village remained tense for several days.
Taking cognizance of the complaint, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate constituted an inquiry committee. The investigation found the constructed shops to be illegal, prompting immediate administrative action.
Sub-Divisional Magistrate Ajit Singh, along with ACP Modinagar Bhaskar Verma and a heavy police force, reached Begumabad village and carried out the demolition using JCB machines. Authorities have also deployed police personnel in the area as a precautionary measure to maintain law and order.
Ajit Singh stated that the structures were found to be unauthorized during the probe and were demolished in accordance with legal provisions.
The administration’s swift action has brought temporary relief, though authorities continue to monitor the situation closely to prevent any further unrest.
