Explosions Outside BSF Headquarters in Jalandhar and Amritsar Trigger Massive Security Alert

New Delhi : Punjab witnessed a tense Tuesday night after powerful explosions took place outside Border Security Force (BSF) headquarters in Jalandhar and Amritsar within a span of nearly three hours, prompting high security alerts across the state.

The first explosion occurred around 8:15 PM outside the BSF headquarters in Jalandhar. A scooter parked near the complex exploded with such intensity that the impact reportedly shook nearby walls, while the sound was heard nearly 1.5 kilometers away. Officials confirmed that no fatalities have been reported, though one person is believed to have suffered injuries.

Police have detained the scooter rider for questioning as investigations continue.

A second blast took place at around 10:50 PM near the BSF headquarters in the Khasa area of Amritsar, close to the India-Pakistan border. According to SSP Sohail Mir Qasim, preliminary investigations indicate that two masked men on a motorcycle hurled an explosive device toward the BSF compound. The device reportedly exploded after hitting the boundary wall.

The explosion damaged tin sheds installed along the boundary and caused minor structural damage between Gate No. 6 and 7. Security agencies immediately cordoned off the area and launched a search operation.

Investigators suspect the use of a grenade in the attack. The incidents have once again raised concerns over Punjab’s security situation, especially after nearly 16 grenade attacks on police stations were reported across the state over the past 18 months.

In the Jalandhar case, the scooter involved belonged to Gurpreet Singh, a Flipkart delivery executive and son of retired BSF employee Kashmira Singh. He had reportedly arrived to deliver a parcel but was denied entry due to not wearing a helmet. Shortly after parking the scooter outside, the explosion occurred.

The blast also triggered panic in a nearby vegetable market, forcing people to flee the area in fear.
