A fresh political row has erupted over India's ethanol blending policy after Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal claimed that the Centre is planning to increase ethanol content in petrol to more than 50%.
In a social media post, Kejriwal wrote, "It is being learnt that they will mix more than 50% ethanol in petrol. Right now, they are only waiting for the situation to calm down." His remarks have reignited the debate over the government's biofuel roadmap and its potential impact on consumers.
The Centre has been promoting ethanol blending as part of its strategy to reduce crude oil imports, lower carbon emissions, and support farmers by increasing the use of domestically produced biofuels. However, Kejriwal's allegation suggests that the government could be considering a significantly higher blending ratio than what has been officially communicated.
As of now, the Centre has not responded to the AAP chief's claim, and there has been no official confirmation of any proposal to raise ethanol blending beyond the existing policy targets.
