The Election Commission of India on Sunday presented a detailed overview of the electorate for the upcoming Assembly elections in five states and Union Territories — Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Puducherry.

During a press conference, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar shared key demographic details of voters across these regions, highlighting the participation of youth, senior citizens, and service electors.

Total Electorate According to the Commission, the total number of voters across the five states and UT stands at around 17.4 crore. Among them:

Assam: Approximately 2.50 crore voters Kerala: Around 2.70 crore voters

Tamil Nadu: Nearly 5.67 crore voters

West Bengal: About 6.44 crore voters

Puducherry: Nearly 9.44 lakh voters Gender-wise Distribution

The data shows a nearly balanced voter distribution between male and female voters across states.

West Bengal: ~3.28 crore male and ~3.16 crore female voters

Tamil Nadu: ~2.77 crore male and ~2.89 crore female voters

Kerala: ~1.31 crore male and ~1.38 crore female voters

Assam: ~1.25 crore male and ~1.25 crore female voters

Puducherry: ~4.43 lakh male and ~5 lakh female voters

The statistics also include third gender voters, reflecting the Commission’s continued effort toward inclusive electoral participation.

Young and Senior Voters

The Election Commission also highlighted special categories of voters:

First-time voters (18–19 years)

Senior citizens aged 85+

Persons with disabilities (PwD) Service electors

Among the states, West Bengal and Tamil Nadu have a particularly large number of young voters, indicating strong participation from newly eligible citizens.

Focus on Inclusive Voting

The Election Commission emphasized its commitment to making the electoral process accessible, inclusive and transparent. Special arrangements are being made to assist elderly voters, persons with disabilities, and service personnel to ensure smooth participation in the democratic process.
