Aadhaar Card Rules Changed in 2026: New Documents Accepted for Easy Enrollment and Updates

The rules for getting a new Aadhaar card or updating Aadhaar details have changed in 2026. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has expanded the list of accepted documents, making the process easier and more convenient for citizens across different categories.

Under the new rules, UIDAI has introduced major changes to simplify Aadhaar enrollment and updates. Certificates issued by District Child Protection Officers for children living in Child Care Institutions (CCI) will now be accepted as valid documents. For the first time, documents related to transgender individuals have also been officially recognized.

OCI card holders will now need to provide a valid foreign passport along with their OCI card during Aadhaar enrollment.

For name updates in Aadhaar, accepted documents include passport, PAN card, voter ID, driving license, government-issued ID cards, and marriage certificates in case of name changes after marriage.

To update the date of birth, users can submit birth certificates, passports, Class 10 or 12 mark sheets, physical PAN cards, or government-issued IDs containing date of birth details.

For address updates, documents such as passport, bank passbook, recent bank statement, electricity bill, water bill, gas bill, ration card, voter ID, and property tax receipts will be accepted. Tenants can also use rent agreements along with police verification or notarized documents.

UIDAI has advised users to carry original documents, provide correct mobile numbers, and visit only official Aadhaar centers while applying for enrollment or updates.
