Rajasthan Police Launches Major Relief Drive, Distributes 5 Lakh ORS Packets Amid Scorching Heatwave
With temperatures soaring up to 46°C, the initiative aims to protect police personnel from dehydration and heatstroke during long duty hours.
In a significant step to safeguard frontline personnel from the harsh effects of extreme summer conditions, the Rajasthan Police has launched a large-scale relief initiative to distribute 5 lakh Oral Rehydration Salts (ORS) packets among its personnel across the state.
The decision comes as Rajasthan battles an intense heatwave, with temperatures ranging between 44°C and 46°C in several districts. Under the direction of Director General of Police Rajeev Kumar Sharma, the campaign prioritizes the health and well-being of constables who remain on duty under extreme weather conditions.
Each police personnel will receive 10 ORS packets to help prevent dehydration and heatstroke, especially those deployed in traffic management, law and order duties, patrolling, and public service roles.
The initiative is being executed under the leadership of DIG Training Sharad Chaudhary, ensuring distribution across 12 police training centers within the state and 4 centers located outside Rajasthan. The effort is further supported through coordination with Range IGs to guarantee effective delivery to every constable.
Adding a philanthropic dimension to the campaign, Rotary Club of Mumbai member and Jhunjhunu-origin expatriate Ashish Poddar has contributed significantly to this humanitarian effort.
The distribution process has already begun. The first consignment of 90,000 ORS packets has reached the Rajasthan Police Academy, with further supplies expected in the coming days. Authorities estimate that the complete distribution will be achieved within a week.
With rising temperatures posing serious health risks, this proactive initiative by the Rajasthan Police is being seen as a timely and much-needed intervention—offering much more than hydration, it provides a crucial layer of protection for those serving on the frontlines.
