Blood Cancer Diagnosed During Pregnancy, Delhi Doctors Save Mother and Baby

In a rare and medically challenging case, doctors at a Delhi hospital successfully treated a pregnant woman suffering from blood cancer and ensured the safe delivery of her baby girl. The 32-year-old woman from Madhya Pradesh was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL), an aggressive form of blood cancer, during the fifth month of her pregnancy.

The diagnosis created a critical situation for doctors, who had to balance the mother’s cancer treatment while protecting the unborn child from the harmful effects of chemotherapy. A specialist medical team led by Dr. Dharam Choudhary designed a carefully monitored treatment plan.

Doctors administered chemotherapy sessions with extreme caution to control the rapidly spreading cancer while minimizing risks to the baby. Throughout the pregnancy, both the mother and the fetus were kept under constant monitoring. At 32 weeks and four days of pregnancy, doctors noticed restricted fetal growth and changes in blood flow. Due to the seriousness of the situation, an emergency C-section was performed on May 7.

The baby girl was born weighing 1.28 kilograms and is currently under special neonatal care because of premature birth. Hospital authorities said the newborn’s condition remains stable. Meanwhile, the mother is recovering and preparing for further leukemia treatment.

Doctors called the case “rare and medically complex,” highlighting the risks involved in treating cancer during pregnancy while ensuring the safety of both mother and child.
