Concerns Over Alleged Under-Weighing at Sugarcane Centre; Kisan Swabhiman Sangathan Demands Inspection

In Muzaffarnagar’s Charthawal region, the Kisan Swabhiman Sangathan has raised serious concerns regarding alleged irregularities in the weighing process at the Triveni Deoband Mill’s sugarcane purchase centre located in Biralsi village. The organisation’s National President, Amrish Rana, has formally written to District Sugarcane Officer O.P. Tomar, expressing apprehension about possible under-weighing (“ghat-toli”) of sugarcane brought in by farmers.
In his letter, Rana highlighted that several farmers from the area have repeatedly complained about discrepancies between the actual weight of their produce and the figures recorded at the purchase centre. According to the organisation, these irregularities not only cause financial losses to the farmers but also undermine their trust in the functioning of the procurement system.
The District Sugarcane Office has yet to issue an official response, but sources indicate that farmers are urging authorities to conduct an on-ground inspection and ensure transparency at the centre. The Kisan Swabhiman Sangathan has demanded immediate corrective action and strict monitoring to prevent exploitation of sugarcane growers.
The issue has sparked local discussions about accountability and the need for digital or automated weighing solutions to eliminate manual discrepancies and rebuild farmer confidence.
