Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday visited Ujala Cygnus Hospital and Shri Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) Hospital in Srinagar to meet the individuals injured in the accidental blast that occurred at the Nowgam Police Station on Monday night. The visit comes as the administration intensifies efforts to ensure the highest level of medical care and support for those affected.

According to officials, the blast at the police station—initially suspected to be a routine incident—turned out to be far more severe, causing multiple injuries and widespread panic in the surrounding area. A detailed investigation is underway to determine the precise cause of the explosion, though early reports suggest it may have been triggered during the handling of old or seized explosive material.

During his hospital rounds, Lt. Governor Sinha spoke individually with several injured patients, their families, and attending medical personnel. He directed the hospital administrations to provide the best possible treatment and assured families that the government would extend all necessary assistance. Doctors briefed him on the condition of the wounded, several of whom suffered burn injuries and trauma due to the impact of the blast.

The LG expressed deep concern over the incident and conveyed prayers for the speedy recovery of all those injured. “My thoughts are with the victims and their families during this difficult time. The administration is taking every measure to ensure proper medical care and support,” he said.

Officials in the Union Territory administration have been instructed to remain in close contact with the affected families and provide any additional help required. The local police, meanwhile, have cordoned off the area and are conducting a thorough examination to rule out any foul play. Senior officers from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, along with forensic teams, have already begun analyzing evidence from the site.

The incident has once again raised questions about the safe handling and storage of confiscated explosives and sensitive material within police establishments. Authorities have indicated that safety protocols across all police stations in the Valley may be reviewed to prevent any such occurrence in the future.

The administration has urged the public to remain calm and allow investigative teams to complete their work. Further updates are expected once the initial inquiry report is submitted.
