Russia Declares Easter Ceasefire in Ukraine Conflict, Calls for Mutual Restraint

New Delhi | April 10, 2026

Russia has announced a temporary ceasefire in the ongoing conflict with Ukraine on the occasion of Orthodox Easter, signaling a brief pause in hostilities. The decision was taken by Vladimir Putin, the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.

According to the official statement, the ceasefire will come into effect from 4:00 p.m. on April 11 and remain in place until the end of April 12, 2026. During this period, all Russian military operations across conflict zones are expected to be suspended.

The Russian leadership has directed Andrey Belousov, Minister of Defence, and Valery Gerasimov, Chief of the General Staff and Commander of the Joint Grouping of Forces, to ensure strict implementation of the ceasefire across all operational fronts.

Despite the temporary halt, Russian forces have been instructed to remain vigilant and prepared to respond to any potential provocations or aggressive actions. The statement emphasized that while military activity would pause, defensive readiness would continue to be maintained at all times.

Moscow also expressed its expectation that Ukraine would reciprocate the move and adhere to the ceasefire, thereby allowing a brief window of peace during the religious observance.

The announcement comes amid ongoing tensions in the region, with international observers closely monitoring whether both sides will honor the ceasefire and reduce hostilities, even if only for a limited duration.
