Former PepsiCo CEO Indra Nooyi has sparked widespread discussion after sharing her candid views on the differences between India and China during a conversation with former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice at the Hoover Institution.

Responding to a question about why fewer American students choose India over China, Nooyi said, "India isn't everyone's cup of tea." Referring to one of India's most recognizable sights, she remarked that foreign visitors are often surprised to see cows walking alongside traffic on busy roads. For Indians, she said, this is simply part of everyday life and reflects the country's distinct culture and way of living.

Nooyi also highlighted what she called the Indian mindset of resilience—the belief that "this too shall pass"—which she said helps people navigate challenges while remaining hopeful about the country's future.

Comparing governance models, Nooyi acknowledged China's rapid rise as a global power under a centralized system but said India's democratic framework naturally makes decision-making slower because every citizen has a voice. She added that India's independent judiciary gives people confidence that their rights are protected, calling it one of the country's greatest strengths.
