India, Australia Reaffirm Strategic Partnership During Penny Wong’s Official Visit

Australia’s Foreign Minister Senator Penny Wong concluded her official visit to India on November 20, 2025, marking another strong step forward in the growing partnership between New Delhi and Canberra.
During the visit, Foreign Minister Wong and India’s External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar co-chaired the 16th India–Australia Foreign Ministers’ Framework Dialogue (FMFD) in New Delhi — the fourth such meeting jointly led by the two leaders. The dialogue focused on reviewing the full spectrum of bilateral cooperation under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, which completes five years in 2025.
Both ministers took stock of progress across key pillars including trade and investment, defence and security, education and skills, research and innovation, science and technology, space collaboration, energy cooperation, and steadily growing people-to-people links. They also discussed regional and global developments, especially in the Indo-Pacific, reaffirming their shared vision of a free, open, secure, and prosperous region.
Foreign Minister Wong also held a separate meeting with India’s National Security Advisor, Ajit Doval, to discuss strategic and security issues of mutual concern.
Indian officials noted that the visit helped sustain the positive momentum in bilateral ties and allowed both sides to finalize the roadmap for the next phase of engagement. With the partnership entering a pivotal milestone year, New Delhi and Canberra agreed to hold the next FMFD in Australia at a mutually convenient date.
The growing synergy between India and Australia continues to be a key element in shaping regional stability and global cooperation.
