India and Israel Sign Terms of Reference to Launch FTA Negotiations

India and Israel have taken a significant step toward strengthening their economic partnership with the signing of the Terms of Reference (ToR) for negotiations on a proposed Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the two nations. The agreement formalizes the framework under which officials from both sides will begin structured negotiations aimed at boosting bilateral trade, investment, and technological cooperation.
The ToR signing marks a major milestone in India–Israel relations, which have grown steadily across sectors such as defence, agriculture, water technology, cybersecurity, innovation, and clean energy. The upcoming FTA talks are expected to focus on reducing tariff barriers, simplifying market access, expanding digital trade, and exploring new areas of cooperation in emerging technologies.
Officials from both countries emphasized that an FTA would unlock substantial opportunities for businesses, support startups, enhance supply chain resilience, and deepen strategic economic linkages. With both economies complementing each other in critical sectors, the agreement is seen as a natural next step in the evolving partnership.
New Delhi and Tel Aviv are expected to convene the first round of negotiations soon, with both sides expressing confidence that the FTA will pave the way for a more dynamic and mutually beneficial economic framework.
