Coal Minister G. Kishan Reddy Inaugurates Key Projects During Visit to Western Coalfields
Foundation stones laid for sports stadium, eco park and mining connectivity project to boost infrastructure and sustainable development.
New Delhi,March 14, 2026 Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for several development projects during his two-day visit to Western Coalfields Limited (WCL).
During the programme, the minister virtually flagged off 25 electric vehicles as part of efforts to promote cleaner and more sustainable operations. He also laid the foundation stone for the Black Diamond Sports Stadium in Kamptee in the Nagpur area, the Swami Vivekananda Eco Park in Tadali in the Wani region, and the First Mile Connectivity Project at the Sasti Open Cast Mine in the Ballarpur area.
Officials said these initiatives aim to strengthen regional infrastructure, encourage environmental conservation, and modernise mining operations.
Following the inauguration, the minister chaired a review meeting to assess WCL’s progress in areas such as coal production, safety measures, environmental protection, and future development plans. Reddy appreciated the work culture and performance of WCL employees and expressed confidence that the company would achieve better results in the current financial year.
During the meeting, WCL Chairman and Managing Director Harish Duhan presented details of the organisation’s achievements during the 2025–26 financial year.
Senior officials, including Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Coal Sanoj Kumar Jha and Coal India Limited Chairman B. Sairam, attended the event.
As part of the visit, the minister is also scheduled to inspect the Murpar underground mine and review the ongoing mine closure process with district officials, experts, NGOs and representatives of local communities.
