New Delhi: Former India cricket captain Rohit Sharma was conferred the Padma Shri, one of India's highest civilian honours, by President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Tuesday. The award recognizes Rohit's outstanding contribution to Indian cricket over a distinguished international career spanning nearly two decades.

The honour was presented during the second Civil Investiture Ceremony of the Padma Awards 2026, where President Murmu conferred 65 Padma Awards, including two Padma Vibhushan, seven Padma Bhushan, and 56 Padma Shri awards.

Rohit Sharma's leadership played a key role in India's recent success on the global stage. He captained the national team to victory in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 and the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, cementing his legacy as one of India's most successful captains.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest ODI batters in cricket history, Rohit has scored 11,720 runs in 285 One-Day Internationals at an average of 48.83. He holds the world record for the highest individual ODI score of 264 and remains the only batter to have scored three double centuries in the format.

In Test cricket, Rohit represented India in 67 matches, scoring 4,301 runs, including 12 centuries and 18 half-centuries. His highest Test score of 212 came against South Africa in 2019.

Rohit also enjoyed a stellar T20 International career, amassing 4,231 runs in 159 matches. He retired from T20Is after leading India to the T20 World Cup title in 2024. Notably, he is the first men's cricketer to have played more than 150 T20 internationals.

With the Padma Shri now added to his long list of achievements, Rohit Sharma's contribution to Indian cricket continues to be celebrated both on and off the field.
