Pakistan’s CWG Nightmare: Just One Medal, Bangladesh Finishes Empty-Handed
Pakistan recorded its worst Commonwealth Games performance in 36 years, while India finished fourth with 39 medals.
Pakistan endured a disappointing campaign at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, returning home with just one bronze medal despite fielding a 21-member contingent.
The country's only medal came through Fatima Zahra, who claimed bronze in the women's 60kg boxing event. With the achievement, she became Pakistan's first female boxer to win a Commonwealth Games medal and was later named the country's flag bearer for the closing ceremony.
Pakistan finished joint 36th in the medal standings, marking its worst Commonwealth Games performance in 36 years. The country had failed to win any medal in 1990 and managed only one silver in 1998.
In contrast, India delivered a strong performance, winning 39 medals—13 gold, 17 silver, and 9 bronze—to finish fourth in the overall medal table. Indian boxers were among the standout performers, winning 10 medals from 14 events.
Australia topped the medal standings with 171 medals, followed by England (110) and Canada (62). Bangladesh, despite sending a 15-member team, failed to win a single medal.
Pakistan's biggest medal hope, Olympic javelin champion Arshad Nadeem, could not defend his Commonwealth title. After qualifying for the final with a throw of 78.63m, he managed only 77.41m in the final to finish ninth. Fellow javelin thrower Yasir Sultan also missed the final, while judoka Shah Hussain Shah exited in the opening round.
Compared to the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games, where Pakistan won seven medals, the Glasgow edition marked a dramatic decline, raising fresh questions about the country's sporting standards and preparation.
