Mamata Banerjee Alleges Political Pressure on Hospital After Abhishek Banerjee Attack

TMC chief and former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has strongly criticized the hospital administration and the BJP following the alleged attack on her nephew, Abhishek Banerjee. She accused political forces of pressuring the hospital into discharging him despite ongoing medical concerns.

Speaking at a press conference, Mamata Banerjee said Abhishek Banerjee had been admitted to the Intensive Therapy Unit (ITU), where doctors conducted multiple tests, including a 3D CT scan, ultrasonography (USG), and thoracic examinations. However, she claimed that mounting pressure on the hospital led to his discharge, and he will now continue treatment at home under the supervision of family doctors.

Mamata alleged that Abhishek suffered blood clots and said his helmet likely saved his life during the attack. She further stated that oxygen cylinders and essential medical equipment would be arranged at home to ensure uninterrupted care.

Raising questions over the hospital’s handling of the case, Mamata asked why Abhishek was admitted to the ITU if his condition was not serious, and if it was serious, why he was discharged so quickly. Calling the incident a major security lapse, she accused the BJP of intimidating hospitals, doctors, and institutions.

Describing the episode as a “murder of democracy,” Mamata also criticized local BJP leaders in West Bengal and said several opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, Kapil Sibal, and Akhilesh Yadav, had expressed concern and offered support.

Meanwhile, TMC workers are set to launch statewide protests, while Mamata Banerjee is expected to stage a sit-in demonstration in Kolkata on Monday against what she described as authoritarian governance and security failures.
