Haryana CM Naib Singh Saini Says ₹556 Crore Recovered, Orders Probe into Bank Irregularities
Chandigarh branch staff under scrutiny; Chief Minister warns of strict action against all involved
Haryana Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini informed the state assembly that the entire sum linked to the recent financial controversy involving IDFC First Bank has been recovered and credited back to government accounts within 24 hours.
Addressing the house, the Chief Minister stated that a total of ₹556 crore, including ₹22 crore in interest, has been successfully brought back. He described the recovery as swift and decisive, emphasising the government’s commitment to safeguarding public funds.
Saini revealed that preliminary findings indicate the involvement of four to five employees from the bank’s Chandigarh branch. Without disclosing specific operational details, he asserted that accountability would be enforced irrespective of an individual’s position. “No one — whether a bank employee, private individual, or government official — will be spared if found guilty,” the Chief Minister declared.
Highlighting the broader governance message, Saini credited the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, remarking that strict vigilance over public resources remains a priority. He underscored that the hard-earned money of citizens is fully protected under the current administrative framework.
The Chief Minister also announced the formation of an inquiry committee headed by the state’s Finance Secretary. According to Saini, the panel has been tasked not only with investigating the incident in detail but also with recommending safeguards to prevent any recurrence of similar situations.
Reaffirming the government’s stance on financial transparency, Saini told the assembly that Haryana’s governance systems have undergone significant reforms. He maintained that the administration is committed to tracking every rupee of public money.
The statement is expected to trigger further political debate, as opposition members continue to seek clarity on the circumstances that led to the episode. Meanwhile, the investigation committee is set to begin its proceedings.
