Fuel Prices Hiked Again: Congress Targets Modi Government Over Rising Petrol, Diesel Rates

The Congress party slammed the Centre, accusing the Modi government of burdening citizens with rising fuel costs after elections.

Petrol and diesel prices were increased by 90 paise per litre on Tuesday, May 19, adding to the financial burden on consumers across the country. This marks the second fuel price hike in less than a week, triggering sharp political reactions.

The Congress party launched a scathing attack on the government led by Narendra Modi, alleging that the repeated hikes are increasing inflationary pressure on the common public.

Taking to social media platform X, Congress criticized the Centre and said, “The whip of inflation man Modi has struck the public again. Petrol and diesel have been made costlier by 90 paise. Modi has increased prices by Rs 4 in the last four days. With this hike, petrol has reached Rs 109 and diesel Rs 96. This is just the beginning, inflation man will continue to recover more because elections are over.”

The opposition party sought to link the fuel price increase to the conclusion of elections, claiming the government delayed price revisions during the poll period and resumed hikes afterward.

The latest increase is expected to impact transportation costs and may have a cascading effect on the prices of essential commodities, raising concerns over inflation among consumers.
