Former Critic Humayun Kabir Offers Mamata Banerjee His Assembly Seat in Surprise Political Twist

Kolkata: In a major and unexpected political development in West Bengal on Thursday, Humayun Kabir — once a fierce critic of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and a recent electoral rival — has publicly offered his Assembly seat to the Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo, urging her to return to the state legislature.

Humayun Kabir, founder of the Aam Janata Unnayan Party (AJUP), made the surprising announcement during an event, saying he was saddened by the current political situation in the state.

“Didi, you can take my seat. If you wish, you may contest from the Rejinagar Assembly constituency in Murshidabad district. I am personally ready to take responsibility for ensuring your return to the Assembly,” Kabir said.

So far, neither Mamata Banerjee nor the Trinamool Congress has issued an official response to the proposal.

From Fierce Opponent to Unexpected Supporter Kabir’s statement has triggered political discussions, particularly because only a few months ago, he was among Mamata Banerjee’s most vocal critics. After separating from the TMC, he formed his own political outfit and aggressively campaigned against the ruling party during the Assembly elections.

Throughout the campaign, Kabir repeatedly attacked the Mamata-led government and questioned its governance. His latest remarks, therefore, mark a dramatic political shift.

Why Did Kabir Make the Offer? According to reports, Humayun Kabir said the present political atmosphere in West Bengal had deeply disturbed him. While acknowledging political differences, he emphasized that Mamata Banerjee’s role in Bengal politics remains significant and cannot be ignored.

Citing this, he openly invited the TMC chief to contest from the Rejinagar Assembly constituency and assured his support in helping her return to the Assembly.
