Congress Leader Tariq Anwar Criticizes NDA Over Leadership Change in Bihar

New Delhi| April 15, 2026: Senior Congress leader Tariq Anwar has strongly criticized the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) following the selection of Samrat Choudhary as the leader of its legislative party in Bihar.

Reacting to the development, Anwar expressed disappointment over the sudden leadership change, stating that the people of Bihar were led to believe that Nitish Kumar would continue as Chief Minister for the next five years. He pointed out that the NDA had fought the elections projecting Nitish Kumar as the face of leadership and had sought votes in his name.

“We expected that Nitish Kumar would remain Chief Minister for the full term, as promised during the elections. The alliance campaigned under his leadership and presented him as the future face of Bihar’s governance,” Anwar said.

He further alleged that the abrupt emergence of Samrat Choudhary as the NDA’s legislative leader reflects a breach of trust with the electorate. According to him, the move amounts to a form of deception with the people of Bihar, who had voted based on a different leadership projection.

The remarks come amid shifting political dynamics in Bihar, where the change in leadership has triggered reactions across party lines. The development is expected to intensify political debates in the state, with opposition parties questioning the NDA’s credibility and commitment to its electoral promises.
