BJP Slams Opposition Protest in Parliament; Gaurav Bhatia Calls Rahul Gandhi ‘Irresponsible’
The BJP criticized Rahul Gandhi over the Parliament protests, while the Opposition demanded Amit Shah's response on the Jantar Mantar police action.
New Delhi | August 5, 2026 The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched a sharp attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi following the Opposition's protest in Parliament, with BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia describing him as an "immature, part-time, and irresponsible Leader of the Opposition."
The criticism came after Opposition MPs staged a protest march inside the Parliament complex, demanding that Union Home Minister Amit Shah respond to the police action during the July 20 Jantar Mantar protest. Protesters raised slogans asking the Home Minister to address the issue in Parliament.
Reacting to the demonstrations, Bhatia said it is the responsibility of the Leader of the Opposition to raise issues inside the House rather than stay away from parliamentary proceedings. He also targeted Rahul Gandhi's recent remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of suffering from "Modi phobia" and "RSS phobia."
The BJP spokesperson further alleged that Rahul Gandhi had ignored the ongoing students' agitation in Jharkhand, calling it an example of "selective amnesia."
Meanwhile, the Opposition has continued to press for an explanation from Amit Shah regarding the reported use of pellet guns during the Jantar Mantar protest. It has also demanded a discussion in Parliament on the alleged Ram Temple donation theft issue, carrying a symbolic donation box during the protest march.
