NITI Aayog Hosts National Workshop on Natural Farming Under State Support Mission

NITI Aayog organized a two-day national workshop on Natural Farming under its State Support Mission (SSM), bringing together farmers, policymakers, scientists, agri-startups and civil society representatives from across the country. The workshop aimed to strengthen collaboration and accelerate the adoption of sustainable agricultural practices nationwide.

A key highlight of the event was the launch of comprehensive Training Manuals on Natural Farming in both Hindi and English. These manuals are designed to equip farmers, extension officers and field-level functionaries with practical, region-specific knowledge to support the transition toward chemical-free and cost-effective farming systems.

The workshop featured a virtual address by Acharya Devvrat, Governor of Gujarat, who underscored the importance of sustainable, farmer-centric agriculture. He emphasized that natural farming can improve soil health, reduce input costs and enhance farmers’ incomes.

Leading academic institutions, including Junagadh Agricultural University and Dr. Y.S. Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, actively participated in the discussions. Farmers and agricultural experts from multiple states such as Punjab, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Odisha attended the deliberations.

Representatives from central institutions like NABARD and APEDA shared insights on certification, market linkages and institutional convergence to strengthen the natural farming ecosystem.

A total of 770 participants attended on Day 1, which concluded with consensus on the need for stronger field demonstrations and evidence-based validation. Day 2 focused on field visits and live demonstrations, allowing participants to observe natural farming practices, bio-input preparations and automation-based setups firsthand. The workshop highlighted growing national momentum toward sustainable agricultural transformation.
