Narendra Modi Pays Tribute to Participants of Dandi March
PM shares Sanskrit verse highlighting the eternal triumph of truth.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday paid homage to all those who took part in the historic Dandi March, which began on this day in 1930 and became a defining moment in India’s freedom struggle. Remembering the leaders and participants who joined the movement led by Mahatma Gandhi, the Prime Minister said their courage and determination continue to inspire generations.
To mark the occasion, Modi shared a Sanskrit Subhashitam that highlights the victory of truth over falsehood: “सत्यमेव जयति नानृतं सत्येन पन्था विततो देवयानः। येनाक्रमन्त्यृषयो ह्याप्तकामा यत्र तत्सत्यस्य परमं निधानम्॥”
The verse conveys that truth always triumphs while falsehood ultimately fades away, and that the path of truth is the one followed by sages who attained spiritual fulfilment and realised the supreme truth.
In a post on the social media platform X (Twitter), the Prime Minister wrote: “सन् 1930 में आज ही के दिन दांडी मार्च की शुरुआत हुई थी। इसमें शामिल सभी विभूतियों का श्रद्धापूर्वक स्मरण!”
The Dandi March, also known as the Salt March, was a major act of civil disobedience against British colonial rule. Led by Mahatma Gandhi, the 24-day march from Sabarmati Ashram to the coastal village of Dandi protested the British monopoly on salt and became a powerful symbol of India’s fight for independence.
