Heatwave Grips North India; Temperatures Cross 35°C in MP, Rajasthan

A sharp rise in temperatures has been recorded across Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, with mercury levels crossing 35°C in early March. The India Meteorological Department forecasts that temperatures may touch 40°C within weeks.

Punjab and Haryana reported averages above 32°C, nearly 3°C higher than seasonal norms. In Uttarakhand’s plains, daytime readings climbed to 31–33°C, signaling an early onset of summer conditions.

Health authorities have issued advisories urging hydration and limited outdoor exposure between 12 PM and 4 PM. Power demand surged by 8% compared to the same period last year, reflecting increased cooling usage.

Meteorologists attribute the spike to western disturbances weakening and clear sky conditions persisting for 7 consecutive days. Agricultural experts warn that wheat crops entering the grain-filling stage may face stress if temperatures exceed 38°C for prolonged periods.
