Delhi-NCR Braces for Another Rainy Day as Monsoon Activity Intensifies

Delhi-NCR woke up to relatively pleasant and cloudy weather on Tuesday, August 11, as the monsoon remained active across the region. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast spells of light to moderate rain across Delhi, with isolated heavy showers possible during the afternoon and evening.

An active weather system moving from Uttar Pradesh towards the National Capital Region is expected to bring further rainfall and thunderstorms. Weather activity could intensify from the afternoon and continue into the evening, raising the possibility of waterlogging and traffic delays in several areas.

The latest IMD forecast puts Delhi's maximum temperature at around 33°C, while the minimum temperature was recorded at approximately 26°C. The weather office expects generally cloudy skies with multiple spells of rain during the day.

Rain has already become a recurring feature of Delhi's weather this month. The Safdarjung observatory recorded rainfall on Monday, and the capital has already crossed its August monthly rainfall average within the first 10 days of the month, according to reports.

The frequent showers have brought relief from the heat and helped maintain relatively satisfactory air quality. Delhi-NCR has recorded its 10th consecutive day of satisfactory air quality, even as intermittent rain and cloudy conditions continue.

However, the rain also brings challenges for daily commuters. Waterlogging, slow-moving traffic and congestion can develop quickly during intense showers, particularly on busy roads and major routes connecting Delhi with Noida, Ghaziabad and Gurugram.

Traffic conditions could be further affected today because the final phase of the Kanwar Yatra coincides with Sawan Shivratri. Authorities have issued advisories for commuters as increased pedestrian movement, temporary camps and road restrictions are expected to put additional pressure on several routes across Delhi-NCR.

The wet spell is not expected to end immediately. The IMD's city forecast indicates chances of light rain or drizzle continuing through August 15, although the intensity is expected to vary from day to day.

For residents, the message remains clear: keep an umbrella handy, allow extra travel time and check traffic conditions before heading out. For Delhi-NCR, the monsoon may be offering a welcome break from the heat—but it is also testing the region's roads and drainage systems once again.
