Delhi Government Issues Eviction Notice to 310 Families in Yamuna Bazar Colony
Residents of Nigam Bodh Ghat area asked to vacate within 15 days over flood-risk concerns and O-Zone regulations.
The Delhi government has issued eviction notices to residents of the Yamuna Bazar Colony near Nigam Bodh Ghat, asking nearly 310 families to vacate the area within 15 days.
According to officials, the action has been taken citing the area’s classification under the “O Zone” and the recurring flood threat posed by the nearby Yamuna River. Authorities say the colony is among the first areas to be severely affected whenever the Yamuna water level rises during the monsoon season.
The notice has triggered anxiety and anger among residents, many of whom claim they have been living in the colony for years. Locals argue that the land belongs to the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and that they had already secured a stay order from the High Court against eviction proceedings.
Residents questioned the basis on which the Delhi government issued fresh notices despite the alleged court protection. Several families said they are now uncertain about their future and fear displacement without proper rehabilitation arrangements.
The issue has once again highlighted the ongoing conflict between environmental regulations, floodplain management, and the rehabilitation rights of people living in vulnerable settlements along the Yamuna riverbank.
Officials maintain that the evacuation is necessary to avoid potential loss of life and property during floods, while residents insist that any action should follow due legal process and court directives.
The development is expected to intensify legal and political debate in the coming days as affected families seek clarity on their status and possible rehabilitation measures.
