Chhattisgarh CM Announces ₹30 Lakh Reward, DSP Promotion for CWG 2026 Silver Medallist Gyaneshwari Yadav

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai felicitated Commonwealth Games 2026 silver medallist Gyaneshwari Yadav at his official residence, announcing a cash reward of ₹30 lakh and a promotion to the post of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in recognition of her remarkable achievement. Gyaneshwari is currently serving as an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) in the Chhattisgarh Police, posted in Rajnandgaon district.

The 53kg weightlifter secured the silver medal at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2026 by lifting a total of 199kg, bringing pride to both the state and the nation. Congratulating her on the achievement, Chief Minister Sai said Gyaneshwari had proved that determination and hard work can help overcome any obstacle. He described her success as a landmark moment in Chhattisgarh's sporting history and said it would inspire young athletes, especially girls, to pursue excellence in sports.

The Chief Minister also reiterated the state government's commitment to supporting athletes by providing quality coaching, modern training facilities, and the necessary equipment to help them excel at prestigious international events such as the Asian Games and the Olympic Games.

Speaking about her journey, Gyaneshwari became emotional while remembering her father. She shared that he was a bodybuilder who would take her to the gym every day on his bicycle. His dream was to see his daughter achieve what he could not and make the country proud on the international stage.

Gyaneshwari also revealed that the day of her competition coincided with the first day of her menstrual cycle, and she was battling severe pain throughout the event. Despite the discomfort, she remained focused and successfully completed each of her lifts to clinch the silver medal.

Expressing her happiness over the announcement of her promotion to DSP, Gyaneshwari said her immediate focus is now on the Asian Games, scheduled to begin in a month's time. She added that she has already started preparing for the prestigious continental event.
