CBN Busts Major Clandestine Synthetic Drug Laboratory in Madhya Pradesh
Specialised teams dismantle sophisticated illegal facility; multiple accused booked under NDPS Act
New Delhi: In a significant breakthrough against synthetic drug manufacturing, officers of the Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN) dismantled a large clandestine laboratory operating in Madhya Pradesh, uncovering a highly equipped illegal drug production facility. Acting on intelligence inputs, officers traced a suspected property matching the provided description, including an iron gate and two palm trees at the entrance.
However, upon reaching the site, the team encountered strong chemical fumes and an overpowering odour, forcing them to temporarily defer entry due to safety and health concerns. A specialised unit equipped with appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) was promptly mobilised from Neemuch to safely conduct the search. Subsequent inspection revealed a sophisticated laboratory fitted with modern machinery and plant installations indicative of synthetic drug production. Given the technical complexity of dismantling the equipment, the CBN sought assistance from the Government Opium and Alkaloid Works (GOAW), Neemuch. A four-member GOAW team comprising engineers and chemists arrived at the location on the midnight of February 15, 2026. The plant and machinery were methodically dismantled and seized, with the operation concluding in the early hours of the morning.
Authorities confirmed that two individuals intercepted earlier at BPL Chauraha in Mandsaur have been formally charged under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act, 1985. The owner of the premises where the illegal laboratory was functioning has also been detained.
Officials stated that further investigations are underway to identify and dismantle the broader network linked to the manufacture and distribution of synthetic drugs. The operation underscores the CBN’s intelligence-driven approach, inter-district coordination, and reliance on technical expertise in combating narcotics-related offences.
Reiterating its commitment, the CBN affirmed its resolve to curb the menace of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances as part of efforts to make India drug-free.
