Quad Foreign Ministers Meet in New Delhi Today Amid Global Uncertainty
Jaishankar to host counterparts from Australia, Japan, and the US as leaders discuss Indo-Pacific cooperation and global challenges
New Delhi, May 26: India is set to host the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in New Delhi today, bringing together top diplomats from the four-member strategic alliance — India, the United States, Australia, and Japan.
India’s External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, will host the high-level meeting attended by Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong, Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi, and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
The ministers are expected to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation across key priority areas under the Quad framework. The agenda includes reviewing the progress of ongoing initiatives and exchanging views on recent developments in the Indo-Pacific region, along with other global issues of mutual concern.
The meeting follows earlier discussions held in Washington, D.C., on July 1 last year, as Quad nations continue to push forward their shared vision of a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific.”
The gathering comes at a time of heightened global uncertainty and ongoing tensions in West Asia, making strategic cooperation among Quad members increasingly significant.
The Quad — consisting of India, the United States, Australia, and Japan — has emerged as an influential grouping focused on maintaining peace, security, and stability in the Indo-Pacific region. India is hosting this year’s meeting in its capacity as the current chair of the alliance.
Beyond regional security, Quad nations are also expected to discuss collaboration in areas such as health security, climate change, critical and emerging technologies, and maritime domain awareness to enhance regional resilience and prosperity.
