Oil Tanker Hijacked in Gulf of Aden, Redirected Towards Somalia

An oil tanker named Eureka has been hijacked by suspected pirates in the Gulf of Aden, raising fresh concerns over maritime security in one of the world’s busiest shipping routes.

According to Yemeni authorities, unidentified attackers boarded the vessel near the coast of Yemen and took control of it. The tanker, sailing under the Togolese flag, has reportedly been redirected toward the coast of Somalia, a region historically linked with piracy incidents.

The Yemeni Coast Guard confirmed that the vessel’s location has been identified and is currently under close surveillance. Officials stated that all necessary measures are being taken to secure the safe release of the tanker and ensure the protection of its crew. However, details regarding the number of crew members or their nationalities have not yet been disclosed.

Authorities are also working with international partners to address the situation and prevent escalation. The incident highlights ongoing risks in the Gulf of Aden, a key global trade corridor connecting the Arabian Sea to the Red Sea.

Maritime security experts warn that such attacks could disrupt shipping operations and increase concerns for vessels operating in the region.
