Israel-Iran Conflict Escalates as Both Nations Exchange Strikes, Threatening Fragile Ceasefire

Tensions in the Middle East have sharply escalated after Israel launched air strikes on western and central Iran in retaliation for Iranian missile attacks on northern Israel. The exchange marks the first direct military confrontation between the two countries since a ceasefire came into effect two months ago.

According to the Israeli military, the air force targeted military facilities linked to Iran in several regions, including western and central parts of the country. Iranian state media reported explosions in cities such as Tehran, Tabriz, Isfahan, and areas near Karaj, although officials claimed urban centers in Tehran were not directly targeted.

The strikes came after Iran launched waves of missiles toward northern Israel, describing the operation as “the beginning of a full week of continuous strikes.” Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated that it targeted two Israeli air bases, Nevatim and Tel Nof, in response to alleged Israeli attacks on Iranian radar facilities.

Israeli authorities said defense systems intercepted many incoming missiles, with emergency services reporting no casualties so far. Warning sirens were activated across several regions, including Jerusalem and central Israel.

The renewed hostilities follow Israeli air strikes on Hezbollah targets in Beirut’s southern suburbs, which Israel said were in response to rocket fire from the Iran-backed militant group. Iran has accused Israel of violating the ceasefire by attacking Lebanon.

The conflict has also impacted global markets, with oil prices surging amid fears of broader regional instability. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump reportedly urged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu not to retaliate further, warning that continued escalation could jeopardize ongoing diplomatic efforts between Washington and Tehran.

As missile exchanges continue, concerns are growing that the fragile ceasefire could collapse entirely, risking a wider regional conflict involving Lebanon, Yemen, and other Iran-backed groups.
