Iran War: US Suffers Over ₹1.23 Lakh Crore in Damage, 20 Military Facilities Hit

The United States reportedly suffered losses of more than ₹1.23 lakh crore ($13 billion) during the conflict with Iran, following a large-scale series of Iranian missile and drone attacks. The attacks were carried out in response to the US-Israeli Operation Epic Fury, launched against Iran in late February 2026 with the stated objective of weakening Tehran’s missile, drone and military capabilities.

According to reports, Iran launched more than 2,000 missiles and drones, including ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and one-way attack drones, against US military positions across the Middle East. Although US and allied air-defence systems intercepted most of the incoming weapons, several strikes reportedly reached their targets.

20 US-linked facilities affected Iranian attacks reportedly targeted at least 20 US or US-linked military facilities across eight countries, including Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Jordan, Bahrain and Iraq.

Major facilities such as Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia, Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait and Al Dhafra Air Base in the UAE were reportedly targeted multiple times.

The estimated $13 billion damage includes the cost of repairing buildings, radar systems, fuel depots, aircraft hangars and other military infrastructure. Pentagon estimates reportedly put the overall cost of the military campaign, including equipment repairs, at around $29 billion.

At least 42 US aircraft damaged or destroyed Reports citing satellite imagery and congressional research indicate that at least 42 American aircraft were damaged or destroyed. These reportedly included F-15E and F-35A fighter jets, KC-135 aerial refuelling tankers, E-3 Sentry aircraft and MQ-9 Reaper drones.

The attacks have highlighted the challenges faced by even advanced military powers in protecting overseas bases from large-scale missile and drone strikes. While systems such as Patriot and THAAD intercepted many incoming weapons, some reportedly penetrated the defences.

The conflict has also raised questions over the vulnerability of US military bases and the need to strengthen missile defence and base security. The extensive damage is expected to have a long-term impact on military budgets through repair and replacement costs.

The conflict demonstrates how relatively inexpensive drones and missiles can pose a significant challenge to sophisticated and costly defence systems, underlining the growing importance of layered air defence and stronger military diplomacy.
