Kangana Ranaut Questions Lack of Workplace Support for Working Mothers

Actor and politician Kangana Ranaut has raised concerns over the lack of workplace support for working mothers while promoting her upcoming film Bharat Bhagya Vidhata. Speaking during a promotional interview alongside co-stars Smita Tambe and Girija Oak, Kangana highlighted the challenges women face in balancing motherhood and professional responsibilities.

The discussion began when Smita Tambe shared her experience as a mother, saying she constantly worries about her daughter’s routine and sleep schedule. She remarked that mothers remain active “not for 24 hours, but 48 hours,” emphasizing the nonstop nature of parenting.

During the conversation, Kangana pointed to the absence of child-friendly facilities at workplaces. Referring to Smita’s daughter visiting the film set, she questioned why offices and workplaces do not have dedicated rooms for children.

“We often discuss prayer rooms and other facilities, but why aren’t there separate spaces for children?” Kangana asked.

Sharing her personal observations, the actress noted that women employed in government jobs receive six months of maternity leave, but often lack adequate support once they return to work. She argued that if governments want to bring more women into the workforce, especially through reservation policies, proper workplace infrastructure and support systems for mothers are necessary.

Kangana stressed that women should not be forced to choose between family and career due to a lack of institutional support.

Backing her views, actress Girija Oak said that no woman should have to decide between her profession and family, calling such situations unfortunate.

Kangana Ranaut will next appear in Bharat Bhagya Vidhata, directed by Manoj Tapadia and backed by Manikarnika Films and Pen Studios. The film, set against the backdrop of the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, is scheduled for release on June 12.
