PM Narendra Modi to Inaugurate Micron’s Semiconductor ATMP Facility in Sanand

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Gujarat on 28 February 2026 to inaugurate Micron Technology’s Semiconductor Assembly, Test and Packaging (ATMP) facility in Sanand. The Prime Minister is scheduled to inaugurate the facility at around 3:45 PM and address the gathering on the occasion.

The inauguration marks a historic milestone in India’s semiconductor manufacturing journey. With this launch, commercial production and shipment of the first Made-in-India semiconductor memory modules will officially begin. The development is expected to significantly strengthen India’s position in the global semiconductor value chain.

The project is being set up by Micron Technology under the Government’s India Semiconductor Mission. Notably, it was the first proposal approved under the mission. The ground-breaking ceremony for the facility was held in September 2023, and construction began soon after approval. The total investment in the project exceeds ₹22,500 crore, reflecting the Government’s commitment to fast-tracking strategic semiconductor initiatives.

Once fully operational, the Sanand ATMP facility will feature nearly 500,000 square feet of cleanroom space, making it one of the world’s largest raised-floor cleanrooms. The plant will convert advanced Dynamic Random Access Memory (DRAM) and NAND semiconductor wafers from Micron’s global manufacturing network into finished memory and storage products.

These products will cater to customers across global markets and help meet the growing demand for memory and storage solutions, driven by rapid advancements in Artificial Intelligence and high-performance computing.

The establishment and operationalisation of this facility underline India’s emergence as a trusted and competitive destination for semiconductor manufacturing. The project aligns with the Prime Minister’s vision of building a resilient, self-reliant, and future-ready technology ecosystem in the country.

With this landmark inauguration, India takes a decisive step toward becoming a key player in the global semiconductor industry.
