Pune IT Professional Duped of ₹4.43 Crore by Fraudsters Posing as ‘Market Gurus’

A 46-year-old IT professional from Pune allegedly lost ₹4.43 crore in a sophisticated cyber fraud after scammers posing as “market gurus” lured him into a fake investment scheme. According to police, the victim was added to a WhatsApp group after responding to a social media post related to stock market investments.

The fraudsters reportedly used the name of a reputed international banking institution to gain credibility and conducted daily online sessions sharing stock tips and investment strategies. A woman identifying herself as “Myra” claimed to be an investment expert and regularly interacted with group members to build trust.

To convince the victim, the scammers shared screenshots of massive profits earned by other investors and persuaded him to download a fake trading application. The app displayed rapidly increasing returns, prompting the victim to transfer ₹4.43 crore through 34 transactions over two weeks.

Police said the money was transferred to multiple suspected mule accounts used for fraudulent activities. The app falsely showed the victim’s investment growing to ₹26.64 crore, but when he attempted to withdraw the funds, the scammers allegedly demanded more money and delayed the process.

Realising he had been duped, the victim approached the police. Pimpri Chinchwad Cyber Crime Police have registered an FIR and launched an investigation into the case.
