SRH Dominate KKR with All-Round Brilliance, Seal 65-Run Victory at Eden Gardens
Klaasen, Head and Abhishek power Hyderabad to 226 before disciplined bowling dismantles Kolkata for 161
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) delivered a commanding all-round performance to register a convincing 65-run win over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Match 6 of IPL 2026 at Eden Gardens. Posting an imposing total of 226 for 8, SRH followed it up with a clinical bowling effort to bowl KKR out for 161, becoming the first team this season to successfully defend a target.
After winning the toss, KKR skipper Ajinkya Rahane opted to field, banking on favourable evening conditions. However, SRH openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma quickly turned the tide with an explosive start. The duo launched a fierce assault during the Powerplay, racing to 84 for 1 and putting the KKR bowlers under immense pressure early on.
Abhishek Sharma was particularly aggressive, taking on Varun Chakaravarthy and disrupting his rhythm completely. The left-hander smashed 48 off just 21 balls, while Head contributed a rapid 46 from 21 deliveries, laying a solid platform for a big total.
Heinrich Klaasen then anchored the innings with a composed 52 off 35 balls, showcasing smart shot selection and control. He found valuable support from Nitish Kumar Reddy, who chipped in with a brisk 39 off 24 balls to maintain the scoring momentum through the middle overs.
Despite the onslaught, Blessing Muzarabani stood out for KKR with an impressive spell, picking up 4 wickets for 41 runs. Contributions from Vaibhav Arora and Kartik Tyagi helped briefly slow things down, but SRH still managed to post a daunting total.
In reply, KKR needed a strong start and got one through Finn Allen, who came out all guns blazing. The New Zealander hammered 28 runs off just 7 balls, briefly igniting hopes of a big chase. However, his dismissal by young spinner Harsh Dubey proved to be a turning point.
Angkrish Raghuvanshi played a fluent knock of 52 off 29 balls, while Rinku Singh added 35 off 25, but KKR’s chase derailed due to poor running between the wickets. Multiple miscommunications resulted in crucial run-outs, breaking partnerships and halting momentum at key moments.
SRH bowlers capitalised on the pressure brilliantly. Jaydev Unadkat led the charge with a disciplined spell, claiming 3 for 21 using clever variations. Nitish Kumar Reddy and Eshan Malinga also impressed with tight spells, ensuring KKR never recovered.
A brief cameo from Sunil Narine added some late entertainment, but the mounting required run rate proved too much as KKR were bowled out in 16 overs.
Nitish Kumar Reddy was named Player of the Match for his impactful all-round display, scoring a quick 39 and picking up two crucial wickets.
With this emphatic victory, Sunrisers Hyderabad have sent a strong message to the rest of the teams, showcasing both batting firepower and bowling discipline. Kolkata Knight Riders, on the other hand, will need to regroup quickly and address key issues before their next outing.
